You can request a copy of a police report by either 1) visiting our records office at 39 South 4th Street or 2) submitting a request for a report using our Online Request Form. Effective May 1, 2025 our records department is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Records is closed on Saturday and Sunday and major holidays.
Schedule of Fees:
Those seeking public records will be charged for the costs of making copies, not labor. The requester may choose whether to have the record duplicated upon paper, upon the same medium in which the public record is kept, or upon any other medium on which the office determines that the record can reasonably be duplicated as an integral part of the office’s normal operations.
- Many records can be requested and received electronically. A third-party convenience fee of $8.00 may apply in some instances.
- The charge for paper copies in excess of twenty-five (25) pages is $0.05 per page.
- If the requester specifically requests information on another medium, an additional $5.00 per thumb drive, will be added to the cost.
- If a requester asks that documents be mailed, they will also be charged the actual cost of the postage and mailing supplies.
- Certified copies, when available, will incur additional charges.
A requester may be required to pay in advance for costs involved in providing the copy. An estimate of cost is available upon request.
Police Video Requests
Under Ohio House Bill 315, Ohio law enforcement agencies may charge up to $75.00 per hour, with a maximum of $750.00, for the processing of public records requests that involve all police video footage; including but not limited to body-worn camera, cruiser camera, and building surveillance footage. A cost estimate will be provided and payment will be required prior to preparing the public record request. Once payment is made in full, the request will be filled in a timely manner.
All fees must be paid in cash, credit/debit card, or by check prior to mailing or emailing of any reports. Make checks payable to: Newark Division of Police
